Gratitude Journal

In-Room Five we have started doing gratitude journals. A gratitude journal is something where you write 3 things you are grateful for.  Mrs Drumonnd brought us all a notebook from Typo. One thing I am grateful for is my cat, Wilson. I love my gratitude journal especially the quote on the front. This is my journal:

Our Assembly!

On Friday Room 5 did their assembly. It was about stereotypes and not to judge others by what they look like, their gender and their religions. We did a dance to a song called Individuality. We also did a play. We did different conversations about people saying things that aren't always true. In my part, I went to ask some boys if I can play soccer with them. After someone says I can't because I am a girl but that is not true. Our assembly was really fun and I am sad that I will never do one again.

My Sun Poem

The sun is like a light bulb
Blazing Brightly in the sky.
It is a fireball
Orbiting slowly around the galaxy.

The sun is a barbecue
Sizzling and scorching on a hot day.
It is a yellow smiley face
Shining source of energy.

The sun is a gold coin
Shimmering light on the ocean.
It is a big ball.
Boiling and shiny on the world.

Marae

Yesterday Good Shepherd School went to the Unitice Marae. We got welcomed on by Whaea Lynda. She was a really good singer. We had to take our shoes off before we went in. We met Papa Hau and he told us a story about one of the stories of the carvings. The story was about a man who wanted to come to New Zealand. But the others didn't want him on the waka because he had a bad knee. He was sad but then a stingray came and said hop on. He couldn't believe it. He hopped on and came to New Zealand. When he finished the story. We went and had a yummy morning tea. We went bake in the Marae and learnt a song and hand coordinations counting to seven in Maori. Then we went outside and the boys did an amazing haka. Here are a few photos from the trip.

Fair Stall

This year is the good shepherd school fair. The school has decided to let each class have a stall and sell a product of our choice. In Room 5 we all got into groups and came up with a product to sell. My group is me, Soeun, Kayano, Hannah and Annika. We chose to sell sherbert. There is a criteria that we have to follow. The product has to be cheap, easy to make, environmentally friendly, profitable and has to be stored. We had to make a name for our product and we came up with Kandy Klash. We made a logo, here is our logo.

My Recipe

Rainbow Cheese Toastie

Ingredients/ Supplies
Bread (2 pieces per toastie)
Toastie machine
Cheese (as much as you need)

Containers
Butter (optional)
Food colouring (optional - but I recommend it because that is what makes it rainbow!)
Method
  1. Get all the ingredients out.
  2. Cut the cheese up into thin slices. Use a cheese slicer if you have one.
  3. Melt the cheese in the microwave.
  4. Divide the cheese into different containers. Get as many containers as you want to depend on how many colours you want.
  5. Put the dye in the cheese and mix the cheese around.
  6. Put the cheese on the bread (make sure you don’t mix the coloured cheese).
  7. Butter the outside of the bread (this prevents the bread from sticking to your toastie machine).
  8. Put your toastie in the machine.
  9. Wait for it to cook then enjoy!

Descriptive Writing

In Room 5 we did some descriptive writing. We went to a website to pick a picture that is based on winter. Here is mine.

I wake up in the morning to the beautiful sunrise.
Eager to get outside and play with the powdery snow.
Making my way outside I leave footprints behind.
The lovely steamy fog makes it hard to see things.
Icy, cold snow slowly melts in my hand.
My hands are all toasty in my gloves.
I love all the fun making snowmen, doing snowball fights and playing football in the magical snow. I lie in the snow, looking up at the soft fluffy clouds.
Watch the leafless trees swaying around in the strong chilly breeze.
The snow days are awesome.

Shrove Tuesday

Today we have made pancakes. We made them because it's Shrove Tuesday. In Jesus' time they made pancakes to use up all their eggs, flour, milk and sugar because they start fasting for 40 days. This time of year is called Lent. Lent prepares us for Easter. If they didn't use them up they would be all hard and would have gone off. We also burned the palm leaves from Palm Sunday last year. We burned them because it's Ash Wednesday tomorrow and we will get the ashes on our forehead.
